Housing
Assisted living and nursing home: When it is time to move from
independent
living to some type of supported environment, the transition may be
difficult. To make it easier, the prospective resident, family and
physician should be involved in the decision.
- Encourage as much
independent decision making as possible by the prospective
resident.
- Move as many personal
effects as possible into the room to foster familiarity and
comfort.
Assure the person that a
family member is always reachable by telephone.

Subsidized housing: Subsidized housing is when the government pays part of
the tenant's rent or mortgage. Housing that is paid for in part by the
government is available to those with a low or moderate income. In most
cases, rent in public and subsidized housing is set at 30 percent of
income.
