Insurance

Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) provides information about a wide variety of insurance policies including Medicare Supplements, Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage, Hoosier RX, and long term care insurance.   Special volunteers help with completing the forms for health claims and sorting through confusing medical statements.

Medicare:  Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and older who receive either Social Security Retirement benefits or Railroad Retirement benefits and persons under age 65 who have received Social Security Disability benefits for at least two (2) years.  (Because Medicare does not cover all medical costs, persons on Medicare may wish to purchase a supplemental policy)

Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage:  Medicare covers many of your health care needs. Today's Medicare is working with private companies approved by Medicare that provide different ways to get your health care and prescription drug coverage in the Medicare Program. The Medicare plan that you choose affects many things like cost, benefits, doctor choice, convenience, and quality.

Medicaid:  Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that helps low-income persons with medical expenses.  It covers most medical costs including prescriptions, medical supplies and equipment, dental services, eye care and transportation.  It is available to low-income person age 65 and older and to low-income blind and disabled persons of any age.
